NARI Foundation, the Alliance to End Child Marriages in Sindh (AECM), and Farzana M Welfare Organization (FMWO) jointly marked the International Day of the Girl Child 2026 under the theme “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights!” The initiative highlighted the urgent need to protect girls’ rights, prevent child marriage, and ensure equal access to education and opportunities.
According to Pakistan’s Household Integrated Economic Survey (HIES) 2024–25, 44% of school-age girls in Sindh are out of school, compared with 35% of boys. Early marriage, poverty, gender discrimination, inadequate school facilities, and limited access to safe drinking water and sanitation remain significant barriers to girls’ education.
Mr. Anwar Ali, Executive Director of NARI Foundation, emphasized that ending child marriage requires effective implementation of laws, community awareness, and coordinated action by government institutions, civil society, and families. He highlighted the importance of protecting girls’ rights and ensuring access to education.
Ms. Afshan Asghar, Chairperson and Founder of NARI Foundation, & Ms.Shakeela Kanwal Vice Chairperson of NARI Foundation Sukkur underscored that girls must be empowered to make informed decisions about their futures. She stressed the importance of girls’ education, women’s empowerment, and challenging harmful social norms that perpetuate child marriage and gender inequality.
Ms. Farzana Khoso of Farzana M Welfare Organization highlighted the need for collective community efforts to protect girls from early marriage, promote gender equality, and create safe, inclusive learning environments where every girl can fulfil her potential.
The three organizations called upon government departments, educators, parents, community leaders, and civil society to strengthen efforts to end child marriage and ensure that every girl can learn, grow, and thrive with dignity and equal opportunity.
“Let Girls Learn. End Child Marriage. Invest in Girls’ Rights.”
