Karachi (Report: Pir Bux Noonari)Karachi Junior doctors at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) have expressed serious concern over the non-payment of their salaries for nearly two and a half months, saying that the prolonged delay has pushed many young doctors into severe financial and mental stress.
The doctors stated that despite working day and night and providing essential medical care to patients, they have not received their salaries for an extended period. They said the continued delay has created considerable difficulties for doctors who depend on their monthly income to meet household expenses, transportation costs, and other basic financial obligations.
According to the affected doctors, the issue of delayed salaries has once again become a matter of serious administrative concern. They alleged that junior doctors are repeatedly forced to face financial hardships because of delays in the release and payment of their salaries.
The doctors said that receiving salaries on time is a basic and legitimate right of every employee. They maintained that junior doctors perform demanding duties in wards, emergency departments, outpatient services and other clinical areas, often working long hours under difficult conditions.
They further said that prolonged salary delays not only create financial problems but can also affect the morale and motivation of young medical professionals. Despite their responsibilities towards patients and the healthcare system, the doctors feel that their own legitimate financial concerns are not being addressed with the urgency they deserve.
The affected doctors have urged the JPMC administration to take immediate steps to resolve the matter and ensure that all outstanding salaries are released without further delay.
They have also appealed to the Secretary Health, Government of Sindh, to take immediate notice of the situation and direct the concerned authorities to ensure the payment of all pending salaries and prevent such delays from recurring in the future.
The doctors said that timely payment of salaries would provide much-needed financial relief to the affected junior doctors and would also help restore confidence among the young medical professionals serving at one of the province’s major public-sector healthcare institutions.
