TANK: Asfandyar Ahmad, a judicial superintendent of South Waziristan Upper, was abducted from his home in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said on Saturday.

The district police officer (DPO) said the incident took place at around 2am when armed assailants abducted the judicial superintendent from his residence in Tank.

Police said that the suspects were riding two motorcycles and fled after abducting the judicial superintendent, adding that a search operation was underway to recover the official.

According to police, checkpoints have been established at various locations as part of the operation, while search efforts are continuing to recover Asfandiyar.

In April 2024, Shakirullah Marwat, the sessions judge of South Waziristan district, was kidnapped by armed men near the border area of Tank and DI Khan.

However, the judge was safely recovered a day after he was abducted, then adviser to KP chief minister on information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif had confirmed.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in violent and terror activities, particularly in its KP and Balochistan provinces, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban came into power.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban regime to rein in terrorist groups; however, Kabul has been reluctant to take concrete action against terror groups operating from its soil.

The incident in South Waziristan comes just a day after several people, including police officials, were martyred and over 100 injured in explosions at a mosque inside Kohat Police Lines during Friday prayer.
