OpenAI has introduced a new feature called “Codex Pets” in its Codex AI coding tool, expanding the growing trend of AI-based companions.
According to details, these AI companions are animated assistants that appear inside the Codex environment to make the coding experience more interactive and engaging. Unlike traditional tools, these companions stay active in the workspace and provide continuous visual feedback without requiring users to switch tabs.
Users can monitor active coding threads, track ongoing tasks, and stay updated on project status through these animated companions. This allows developers to work more efficiently while keeping an eye on progress in real time.
To enable the feature, users need to go to Codex settings, select “Appearance,” and then choose the “Pets” option. Once activated, the AI companions can be enabled or disabled at any time according to user preference.
The feature includes eight default options, including animals such as cats and dogs. Additionally, users have the option to create custom AI pets tailored to their preferences.
These custom companions can be generated through prompts within Codex and shared online with others, adding a creative and personalized element to the coding experience.
