ISLAMABAD: Regarding the government decision to make digital vaccination cards mandatory for Umrah and Hajj pilgrims, the Airline Operators Committee (AOC) has demanded an extension of the deadline to phase out manual cards, ARY News reported.
In a letter addressed to the Health Officer at Karachi Airport, the committee requested additional time before manual cards are rendered invalid.
The AOC stated that it has taken note of the government’s instructions regarding the digital requirement and assured authorities that travel agents will inform passengers accordingly.
To facilitate the transition, the committee called for the establishment of vaccination centers at multiple key locations across Karachi, specifically suggesting sites near National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) offices.
Expressing concern over potential operational disruptions, the committee highlighted that many outbound passengers do not arrive at the airport early, raising fears of massive queues and congestion.
The AOC emphasized that the current September 16 deadline leaves insufficient time for full compliance and urged authorities to extend the deadline until October 1.
