Following the recent adjustment in petroleum product prices, detailed figures regarding taxes imposed on petrol and diesel per liter have come to light.
According to sources in the Ministry of Energy, nearly 32% of the price of petrol per liter consists of taxes, while around 21% of diesel prices is made up of taxes and duties.
For petrol, the breakdown shows that Rs 129.72 per liter is included in various taxes. This includes Rs 23.72 as customs duty, while Rs 103.50 is petroleum levy. In addition, a climate support levy of Rs 2.50 per liter is also applied.
For diesel, sources said that Rs 82.81 per liter is collected in taxes. This includes Rs 51.62 as customs duty, while Rs 28.69 is charged as petroleum levy. Similar to petrol, a climate support levy of Rs 2.50 per liter is also part of the pricing structure.
