KARACHI: The English speech of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent Sindh Assembly member Shabbir Qureshi became a talking point during the provincial assembly session.
Qureshi presented a resolution in English to pay tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, on the occasion of his death anniversary.
His distinctive delivery and what was described as “broken” or “informal” English drew attention from members present in the assembly.
As Qureshi attempted to read out and present the resolution, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon and Sindh Home Minister reportedly struggled to contain their laughter.
The incident briefly created a lighter atmosphere during the assembly proceedings, as Qureshi continued with his presentation despite the reaction from the treasury benches.
The resolution was presented as part of proceedings commemorating the services and legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Members of the provincial assembly used the occasion to remember Pakistan’s founder and acknowledge his contribution to the creation of the country.
Qureshi’s presentation, however, became the most noticeable moment of the proceedings after his English pronunciation and delivery attracted attention inside the chamber.

Shabbir Qureshi is a PTI-supported independent member of the Sindh Assembly. His attempt to present the resolution in English, rather than Urdu or Sindhi, attracted particular attention because of his distinctive style of delivery.
The reaction from Sharjeel Memon and other members added to the humorous nature of the moment, although the proceedings subsequently continued.
