Israeli PM Netanyahu Faces Major Political Setback as Former Leaders Announce New Alliance

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing a significant political challenge after two former prime ministers, Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, announced the formation of a new electoral alliance aimed at unseating his government in the next general elections.

According to reports, Bennett and Lapid have decided to merge their respective political parties to create a unified front ahead of the October 2026 elections. The move is being seen as a strategic effort to consolidate opposition forces and present a stronger challenge to Netanyahu’s long-standing political dominance.

Speaking about the development, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett confirmed that the new political entity will be named “Together.” He also announced that he will lead the alliance, signaling his intent to play a central role in shaping Israel’s political future.

Bennett emphasized that the alliance represents a turning point in Israeli politics, stating that after nearly three decades of Netanyahu’s influence, it is time for a change in direction. “Israel must change its course,” he said, highlighting the need for new leadership and fresh policy approaches.

Yair Lapid, who has also previously served as prime minister, is expected to play a key role in the alliance, bringing his سیاسی experience and support base into the coalition. Analysts believe that the объединение of these two prominent figures could significantly alter the political landscape, especially if it succeeds in attracting additional parties and voters dissatisfied with the current government.

The primary objective of the new alliance is to defeat Netanyahu’s coalition government, which has faced criticism from opposition leaders over various domestic and international policies. By joining forces, Bennett and Lapid aim to avoid fragmentation of the opposition vote—a factor that has historically benefited Netanyahu in closely contested elections.

Political observers note that this development could energize the opposition and intensify competition ahead of the انتخابات. The formation of a united bloc may also encourage smaller parties to align themselves with the new alliance, potentially increasing its electoral strength.

Netanyahu, one of Israel’s longest-serving leaders, has maintained a strong political presence over the years, but his tenure has also been marked by controversies and challenges. The emergence of a consolidated opposition alliance could pose one of the most serious threats to his leadership in recent times.

While it remains to be seen how voters will respond, the announcement has already sparked debate across Israel’s political spectrum. Supporters of the new alliance view it as a necessary step toward political renewal, while critics question whether the merger will be able to maintain unity and deliver on its promises.
