Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that timely government actions, taken in response to the evolving regional situation, have successfully prevented an energy crisis in the country.
He made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting on energy security in Islamabad, where the overall energy situation and preparedness were reviewed in detail. The meeting was attended by several key federal ministers, including Musadik Malik, Ahsan Iqbal, Owais Leghari, Ata Tarar, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervez, and Ahad Cheema, along with Adviser on Privatization Muhammad Ali.
Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior government officials were also present during the session.
During the meeting, discussions focused on ensuring energy stability, managing supply chains, and strengthening coordination between relevant departments to avoid any disruption in the power and fuel sectors.
The prime minister emphasized that the government had taken proactive steps in view of the regional environment, which helped maintain stability in the country’s energy supply system. He said that these preventive measures ensured that no energy shortage or crisis emerged despite external pressures.
Officials briefed the meeting on the current energy demand and supply situation, ongoing projects, and measures being taken to improve efficiency in the sector. Various proposals were also discussed to further strengthen energy security and reduce dependency on external factors.
Experts note that energy security remains a critical issue for Pakistan, particularly in times of regional uncertainty. Any disruption in fuel supply chains or international markets can have a direct impact on domestic energy availability and prices.
The government has been focusing on diversification of energy sources, improving infrastructure, and enhancing coordination among institutions to ensure uninterrupted supply to households and industries.
