Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Pakistan’s UN Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmed as the new Foreign Secretary.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Asim Iftikhar will lead the Foreign Office in advancing Pakistan’s interests professionally.
Current Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch will retire on September 17, 2026, and will subsequently serve as Pakistan’s ambassador to Türkiye.
