Islamabad: A woman from Dera Ismail Khan has finally received relief from the Supreme Court in an inheritance property dispute after being deprived of her share for nearly half a century.

Zaitoon Bibi had been denied her inherited property since the death of her father in 1976. The Supreme Court rejected an application filed by the opposing party and ordered implementation of its 2022 judgment in Zaitoon Bibi’s favour.

The bench comprising Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Malik Shahzad and Justice Salahuddin Panhwar issued the decision, which was authored by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar.

The Supreme Court expressed strong displeasure over the failure to implement judicial orders, observing that the judicial system is based on trust, discipline and respect for court orders, which must be followed.

The court had already dismissed the opposing party’s review petition in 2024. With the latest order, Zaitoon Bibi has secured final relief in the decades-old inheritance dispute.
