Karachi: Former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has criticized the government’s petroleum levy, saying petroleum products are being subjected to a 30% levy.

Speaking on Geo News’ programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath, he said most other products are subject to an 18% GST, while petroleum products face a significantly higher burden.

Ismail said the government could negotiate with the IMF to reduce the petroleum levy to 18%.

He added that if the government cannot find even Rs30 billion within a budget of Rs30 trillion, it should be considered a failure of governance.
