The 13th general meeting of Sukkur Municipal Corporation was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh. Deputy Mayor Dr Arshad Mughal, Municipal Commissioner Khalid Jatoi, town chairmen, vice chairmen, UC chairmen, councillors and officials from various departments attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on several major civic issues, including sanitation, sewerage and drainage, water supply, roads, ongoing development projects and other basic facilities. Departmental officials also briefed the participants about their performance and the progress of ongoing schemes.
During the meeting, the atmosphere became heated while different issues were being discussed. Mayor Arsalan Islam Sheikh said that a significant number of Sukkur’s basic problems had already been resolved, while work on the remaining issues was continuing at a fast pace.
He said approximately 60 percent of the city’s development work had been completed. Considerable progress had also been made in addressing sewerage and drainage problems in Old Sukkur, Qureshi Goth, New Pind, Micro Colony and other areas. The relevant officials were directed to accelerate development projects and ensure the provision of basic facilities to citizens.
An important political issue also came under discussion. UC Chairman Abdul Sami Pirzada presented a resolution opposing the division of Sindh and the creation of new provinces. The resolution was unanimously approved by the members present, reaffirming their support for the unity of Sindh.
The meeting was also considered important because the current term of local government representatives is nearing completion. Changes in the powers and responsibilities of UC chairmen and other elected representatives are expected after the completion of their term.
