KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has said PTI supporters are welcome to visit the city but warned that no statements against Pakistan would be tolerated.
Speaking to the media at the inauguration of a community centre in Gizri, Wahab said he had no personal disagreement with PTI members. He said the administration facilitates all public gatherings, including those organized by the Pakistan Peoples Party, where containers are also placed as part of security arrangements.
Wahab said community centres were an essential public facility and that wealthy people could arrange events in large private venues, while ordinary citizens often lacked similar options.
He said the Karachi administration was working on providing more community centres across the city to facilitate residents.
The mayor also claimed that Karachi was currently the only major city in Pakistan where an active local government was functioning.
He criticized those he said had previously damaged the city and noted that they were now also demanding a separate administrative unit for Karachi.
