KOTRI: Seven carriages of a coal-laden freight train travelling from Karachi to Punjab derailed near Kotri, resulting in the death of a railway employee.
According to railway authorities, the accident occurred at around 4pm, causing the up track to be closed. Efforts are underway to place the derailed carriages back on the track.
The railway spokesperson said a relief train departed from Karachi at 5pm to assist with the restoration operation. Authorities expect the affected track to be restored by midnight.
The down track has been reopened for railway traffic, while restoration work continues on the affected section.
Railway authorities confirmed that one railway employee was killed after being struck by the train during the incident.
Officials are monitoring the restoration work and taking steps to resume normal train operations as soon as possible.
