It has been decided to change administrative structure to implement labour laws in Punjab.
Labour Department is preparing to convert 124 vacant clerical posts into field and technical posts.
As many as 85 vacancies of senior clerks and 39 vacancies of stenographers eliminated.
According to documents, 54 labour inspectors will be appointed in place of vacant posts.
Four labour officers, 11 assistant directors and posts of 16 deputy directors will be created.
As many as 39 new posts of data entry operators will also be created in the labour department.
Despite the creation of new posts, the approved workforce will remain at 950.
However, 444 out of 950 approved posts of the labour department are still vacant.
Only 266 inspection officers will be available to enforce labour laws in the province.
A labour inspector was responsible for supervising 214,222 workers.
Each inspector had to supervise an average of 1,028 businesses.
The new posts will cost the government exchequer more than Rs22.4 million annually.
The new administrative structure will make actions against child and forced labour more effective.
