ISLAMABAD, Apr 03 (APP):MNA Munaza Hassan on Friday raised concerns in the National Assembly over the problems faced by media workers, after journalists staged a walkout a day earlier to protest layoffs and unpaid salaries.

During the session, it was noted that on the instructions of the Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sasiq, Shazia Marri and Barrister Aqeel Malik were sent to talk to the protesting journalists following the boycott.

Referring to the meeting, Munaza Hassan said the journalists presented what she called genuine demands.

She said media workers complained that they were being removed from jobs without prior notice.

They also said salaries had not been paid for up to three months.

She added that journalists had also lost concessionary railway travel facilities, which had earlier helped them perform their duties.

Munaza Hassan said it is very difficult to survive even a single day without a salary in the current economic situation. She also pointed out that some journalists are being paid less than the minimum wage.

She also stressed that the information minister should engage with both journalists and media organisations to resolve the issue without delay.
