ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday ordered release of a convict from jail after 12 years arrested in China in narcotics case.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro ordered release of drug convict Syed Jalal Haider today over a petition from his mother.
Jalal Haider was arrested in China over 350 grams of heroin in possession and a Chinese court had awarded him 15 years’ jail term.
The convict was brought to Pakistan under a prisoners’ exchange agreement with China.
Earlier, petitioner’s lawyer argued before the court that the convict has completed his jail term under the Pakistani law, “He has served 12 years in jail, while according to Pakistani laws, he was required to complete 10 years in prison”, lawyer said.
Justice Soomro in an interchange with the mother of the convicted prisoner assured that her son will be released today.
The court granted the petition and ordered release of Jalal Haider from jail.
