The Sindh cabinet, which met with provincial Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah in the chair on Tuesday, approved the mapping and a comprehensive survey of katcha area of the province through the Survey of Pakistan (SoP), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The meeting was held at the CM House.
The katcha area of Sindh spreads over 1.6 million acres.
The provincial cabinet also allocated over Rs705 million for the survey.
The cabinet was briefed that a comprehensive and an accurate database of the katcha area would be prepared.
It was informed that the purpose of the survey was to improve revenue collection and management of these areas.
The meeting was told that the mapping of the katcha area would help protect environment and get rid of encroachments of the state land.
It was informed that the project would be completed in 15.5 months.
The meeting was informed that in this connection, the Board of Revenue (BoR) and the Survey of Pakistan had signed an agreement in July, 2026, and that the ‘Survey of Katch Land in Sindh’ had been greenlighted on March 31, 2026.
The cabinet was briefed that the survey would be completed in two phases: in the first phase, the total area of the katcha land would be determined through satellite pictures and GIS mapping, while in the second phase, there would be a delineation of these lands.
Following the survey, maps and comprehensive survey reports would be compiled.
It was informed that the survey would be held in the katcha areas of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkano and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions.
The chief minister directed the BoR and Survey of Pakistan (SoP) to complete the project on time. “Please also ensure high standards of accuracy and transparency,” he directed.
