KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet has approved a package of tax and registration incentives to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) across the province.
The meeting, chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House, reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation.
The chief minister said greater use of electric vehicles would help reduce dependence on imported fuel, while continued tax incentives would encourage people to shift toward cleaner modes of transport.
Incentives Extended Until 2028
According to the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, the cabinet approved a two-year extension of tax and registration incentives for non-commercial electric vehicles. The incentives will remain in effect until May 29, 2028, covering the period from May 30, 2026, to May 29, 2028.
Under the approved package:
The registration fee for electric vehicles will remain at Rs1,000.
The annual motor vehicle tax for non-commercial electric vehicles will remain at Rs500.
Electric motorcycles will be subject to a one-time lifetime motor vehicle tax of Rs500.
Electric vehicles with an equivalent engine capacity of 2,000cc or above will be subject to a Rs5,000 luxury tax.
A Rs1,000 penalty will apply for late registration of an electric vehicle.
The Sindh government said the continuation of these incentives is aimed at making electric vehicles more accessible and supporting the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation in the province.
