KARACHI: Police officials present at the scene of an altercation in Karachi’s Defence area have been identified, authorities said.
According to police officials, the officers seen in a video of the incident are currently posted in Korangi District and Madadgar 15 Korangi.
The identification of the officers comes as authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the altercation in Khayaban-e-Bukhari, Defence.
Police sources said the officers had also been summoned to the office of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South at 10am today for questioning and to record their statements. However, the concerned personnel did not appear at the DIG South office.
Officials are expected to determine why the officers were present at the location, what role they played during the incident and whether they followed the required police procedures.
The video circulating in connection with the incident has drawn attention to the conduct of the police personnel present at the scene. Authorities are examining the footage and other available information as part of the inquiry.
Police officials have not yet announced what action, if any, will be taken against the officers for failing to appear before the DIG South office.
Further proceedings are expected once the officers appear before the relevant authorities and provide their statements. The investigation will also help establish the sequence of events during the altercation and clarify the role of everyone present at the scene.
