ISLAMABAD: The federal government has sought names from all political parties for representation on a joint parliamentary committee that will investigate the PIMS incident.
According to parliamentary sources, the government has initiated the process of forming the committee following the National Assembly’s approval of a resolution calling for a joint parliamentary investigation.
The National Assembly had approved the resolution on Friday, paving the way for the formation of a parliamentary committee to examine the incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Sources said the government has contacted all political parties and asked them to nominate members for representation on the proposed committee. The committee is expected to include representatives from all parties in parliament, ensuring that the investigation has broader political participation.
Parliamentary sources said the government wants the committee to be formed as soon as possible so that the investigation can formally begin. Once the political parties submit the names of their nominees, the relevant authorities will issue an official notification constituting the committee.
The move comes amid calls for a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the PIMS incident. The proposed parliamentary mechanism is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, determine whether any administrative or security lapses occurred, and identify those responsible, if any wrongdoing is established.
