SUKKUR (Danish Rajput): The National Executive Council meeting of the All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA was held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall in Lahore, where members discussed the proposed privatization of power distribution companies (DISCOs), workers’ issues, labour-related matters and the protection of WAPDA employees’ rights.
The meeting was chaired by Central General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed, while Central President Abdul Latif Nizami addressed the participants. Members held detailed discussions on a range of issues facing the union and employees, with particular focus on the future of DISCOs and the potential impact of privatization on workers.
The participants reviewed the union’s position on the privatization of DISCOs and discussed ways to safeguard the rights and interests of employees. Labour-related challenges, organizational matters and other issues concerning WAPDA workers were also considered during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Joint President Haji Muhammad Ramzan Achakzai, Central Chairman Gohar Taj, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Chairman Haji Iqbal Khan, Sindh Provincial Secretary Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Agha Muhammad, Zonal Chairman Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, Jameel Akhtar Tanoli, Javed Iqbal Baloch, Wali-ur-Rehman Khan, Ghulam Rasool Gujjar and Sarfraz Ahmed Hindal, along with other members of the National Executive Council.
Representatives from Sindh also participated in the meeting. Ghotki Circle Zonal Chairman Javed Ahmed Abbasi, Abdul Khaliq Sawand, Abid Hussain Gopang and Aqeel Ahmed Dayo attended the session. From Sukkur City Circle, Zonal Chairman Khalil-ur-Rehman Dhomki, Nazar Memon and other representatives were also present.
Raja of MNT from Sukkur also participated in the meeting.
During the session, union leaders and representatives discussed measures to protect employees’ rights and address labour-related grievances. They also considered ways to strengthen the union’s position on the proposed privatization of DISCOs and ensure that workers’ interests remain protected during any restructuring or policy changes in the power sector.
The participants emphasized the need for an effective organizational strategy to address workers’ concerns and promote their legitimate rights. Various organizational matters were also discussed with a view to making the union’s activities more effective at the national and regional levels.
The leadership maintained that workers’ interests should remain a key consideration in any decisions concerning the power distribution companies. The meeting provided representatives from different regions and circles an opportunity to share their concerns and discuss a coordinated approach to labour and organizational issues.
The National Executive Council also reviewed matters related to the union’s future activities and agreed on the importance of continuing efforts for the welfare of WAPDA employees and the resolution of their workplace grievances.
The meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on protecting workers’ rights, addressing labour issues through collective efforts and advancing the union’s position on matters affecting employees in the power sector.
