HYDERABAD — August 20, 2026: Students of the Department of Media and Communication Studies, University of Sindh Jamshoro, have secured third position at the National Climate Justice Youth Film Festival 2026, organized by the Indus Consortium in Islamabad.
The film festival focused on the theme “Electric Vehicles and Their Role in Tackling Climate Change.” Students from various universities and young filmmakers participated in the event, presenting documentary films highlighting climate change, environmental challenges, and possible solutions.
A student group from the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Sindh Jamshoro, comprising Shayan Ali, Alisha Rind, Shehnaz Baloch, and Zulfiqar Lashari, produced a documentary that earned third position in the competition.
The festival provided a platform for young filmmakers to showcase their creative work and raise awareness about pressing environmental issues. Through their documentaries, participants highlighted the potential impact of electric vehicles and other sustainable approaches in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
The participation and achievement of the University of Sindh students was welcomed as an encouraging development for young media students and emerging filmmakers. Their success also highlighted the role of universities in promoting awareness about environmental sustainability and climate-related challenges through media and creative storytelling.
Senator Punjo Mal and University of Sindh Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Fateh Marri (TI) attended the ceremony as guests of honour. They distributed awards among the successful students and congratulated the young filmmakers for their achievements.
The recognition at the national-level festival brought appreciation to the University of Sindh Jamshoro and its Department of Media and Communication Studies, while also encouraging students to continue using documentary filmmaking and digital media to highlight important social and environmental issues.
The Climate Justice Youth Film Festival 2026 served as an important platform for youth participation in discussions surrounding climate change and sustainable development, giving emerging filmmakers an opportunity to communicate environmental concerns through powerful visual storytelling.
