ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Jane Marriott has assured cooperation and necessary steps to address delays in the issuance of UK visas to Pakistani students.
She made the assurance during a meeting with Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, during which the two sides discussed Pakistan-UK bilateral relations and various matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar raised the issue of delays in UK visas for Pakistani students with the British High Commissioner and conveyed the concerns of the Government of Pakistan in this regard.
The federal minister said hundreds of Pakistani students were facing difficulties due to delays in obtaining UK visas. He expressed concern that delays in the timely issuance of visas could result in students missing their academic sessions.
Tarar emphasized the need to remove obstacles preventing Pakistani students from benefiting from educational opportunities abroad.
The minister also informed the British High Commissioner that, on the directives of the prime minister, a committee headed by him is working to improve the legal and institutional framework concerning Pakistani students studying abroad. The committee has already prepared its recommendations on the matter.
Azam Nazeer Tarar said work was continuing to make the legal and institutional framework for Pakistani students seeking education abroad more effective, so that they do not face unnecessary difficulties in pursuing their studies.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott assured the minister of cooperation and steps to help resolve the issue of delays in Pakistani students’ visas.
The meeting also discussed further strengthening educational ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, as well as enhancing institutional linkages and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
Minister of State for Law, Justice and Human Rights Barrister Aqeel Malik was also present at the meeting.
