ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja has said that he has no authority to remove Senator Mishal Yousafzai from the Senate, adding that he exercised restraint to prevent further divisions within the party.
Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Salman Akram Raja said that he did not have the authority to remove Mishal Yousafzai from the Senate. He said he had chosen to overlook the matter because taking action could have created further divisions and internal conflict within PTI.
The PTI secretary-general further stated that Mishal Yousafzai was not acting alone and that she had a group supporting her. He said that the facts would eventually become clear before everyone.
“I will not give further publicity to an issue that was given importance in the past,” Salman Akram Raja said, adding that he did not know who had made Mishal Yousafzai a senator.
His remarks come amid reports of differences and disagreements within PTI regarding party affairs and the roles of certain members. The statement suggests that the party leadership is attempting to prevent the internal dispute from escalating while maintaining that the facts surrounding the matter will eventually emerge.
Salman Akram Raja’s comments also highlight the continuing challenges facing PTI leadership as it seeks to maintain unity among its senior members and parliamentary representatives.
