SUKKUR Residents belonging to the Malik community from the Bachal Shah Miani area of Sukkur staged a protest outside the Sukkur Press Club against alleged violence and attacks by members of another faction of their community and the police’s alleged failure to register a case.
The protesters carried placards and called upon police authorities to provide them with protection, ensure justice and take legal action against those allegedly involved in the attacks.
Speaking to the media during the protest, Ali Akbar Malik, Mujahid Malik, Gul Hassan Malik and other affected residents alleged that a dispute had been continuing between two factions of the Malik community for some time.
According to the protesters, the dispute initially began around six months ago following a heated argument at a shop. They said that tensions had escalated significantly during the past four days, resulting in a series of alleged attacks and injuries.
The protesters alleged that a few days ago, individuals belonging to the opposing faction attacked their shop, during which Shoaib Malik and several other people were allegedly injured.
They further claimed that the following day, another alleged attack took place at a hotel, where gunfire was also reported. According to the protesters, Nazar Malik, Yasin Malik, Ramzan Malik, Asad Malik and Kamran Malik were injured in the incident and were still receiving treatment at a hospital.
The affected individuals said the incidents had created fear and insecurity among their families and community members.
They further alleged that after these incidents, Ismail Malik was returning home from work when he was allegedly attacked with sticks and punches near Military Road in Sukkur.
According to the protesters, Ismail Malik sustained injuries in the alleged assault, while the attackers reportedly fled the scene after the incident.
The protesters expressed concern that despite several people allegedly being injured in the incidents, police had not yet registered their First Information Report (FIR).
They said the alleged failure to register the case had caused serious concern among the affected families, who feared further escalation of the dispute.
The protesters also alleged that some members of the opposing faction were influential and had alleged links with criminal elements, which they claimed had prevented effective police action against them.
The allegations made during the protest have not been independently verified, and the accused side has not publicly presented its position regarding the claims.
The protesters demanded that police conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into all the reported incidents and immediately register an FIR based on their complaint.
They also called for proper legal action against those allegedly responsible for the attacks and demanded justice for the injured individuals.
The protesters appealed directly to SHO Mansoor Attar, DIG Sukkur and SSP Sukkur, urging them to take immediate notice of the situation and ensure protection for the affected families.
They said that the police should investigate the alleged attacks without discrimination and take action against anyone found responsible according to the law.
The protesters emphasized that their primary demand was protection and justice and that they wanted the authorities to prevent the dispute from escalating further.
They also called for the injured individuals to be provided with justice and for their complaints to be formally investigated through the legal process.
The protestors warned that if their demands were not addressed and they were not provided protection, they would be forced to expand their protest.
The demonstration remained focused on the alleged attacks, the reported injuries and the demand for registration of a police case.
The situation highlights the potential consequences of prolonged disputes between community factions, particularly when allegations of violence and retaliatory attacks emerge.
Local authorities are expected to examine the allegations, verify the reported incidents and determine whether criminal offences were committed.
A transparent investigation would also be necessary to establish the facts, identify those responsible for any unlawful acts and ensure that both sides receive due process under the law.
