KARACHI (August 8, 2026): Ittehad Town Police in Karachi’s Keamari district arrested an alleged key member of a wanted inter-provincial extortion and robbery gang during a targeted operation based on secret information.
According to Keamari Police, the arrested suspect was identified as Muhammad Irfan, son of Shiraz Ahmed. Police said an illegal 12-bore rifle and a Honda 125 motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
Initial investigations indicate that the suspect was part of a three-member group allegedly involving two other suspects, identified as Idrees, the arrested man’s brother, and Shehab.
Police said the group was allegedly involved in making extortion calls to traders in the Baldia Division and was also suspected of carrying out several street-crime incidents.
According to police, Muhammad Irfan allegedly provided weapons, motorcycles and other assistance to Idrees and Shehab.
Police further alleged that Idrees and Shehab, wearing police uniforms, snatched a Honda 125 motorcycle last month in the Gulshan-e-Ghazi area of Ittehad Town. A case regarding the incident was registered at Ittehad Town Police Station.
The group is also allegedly wanted for making extortion calls to at least four traders in Baldia Division using foreign WhatsApp numbers.
Police said the gang allegedly called the owner of Dilpasand Restaurant in the Ittehad Town area last month and demanded extortion. The restaurant was later allegedly targeted with gunfire.
The group is also accused of making extortion calls to the owners of Nomi Classic Burger Point in the Ittehad Town area, Bukhari Steel Mill in the Saeedabad area and Abid Sweets, using foreign telephone numbers.
Police said investigations into the four extortion-related cases and terrorism-related charges are being conducted by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC).
Officials added that members of the alleged gang were also facing several cases in Karachi as well as Punjab.
A further case has been registered against the arrested suspect under the Sindh Arms Act at Ittehad Town Police Station. Police said efforts were underway to arrest the remaining suspects and continue the investigation.
