KARACHI: Former Pakistan fast bowler Usman Shinwari has advised Pakistan’s fast bowlers, including Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, to adopt a more selective approach to cricket in order to maintain their fitness and effectiveness.
Speaking to the media, Shinwari said that playing too much cricket could put additional physical pressure on fast bowlers and that they should carefully manage their workload.
He said that series in England have always been challenging for Pakistan, but expressed hope that the team could produce a strong performance based on its current form and momentum.
Shinwari also discussed Pakistan’s recent Test series against the West Indies. He said the team had disappointed in the first Test but made an excellent comeback in the second match.
He stressed that consistency within the team would be important for achieving better results.
“The more consistency the team has, the better the results will be,” he said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum and building confidence through continued performances.
Shinwari also welcomed the decision to appoint Babar Azam as captain, saying that Babar has the ability to lead Pakistan effectively in Test cricket.
According to the former fast bowler, Babar’s experience and understanding of the game can help him guide the Test side and contribute to greater stability within the team.
Shinwari’s comments come at a time when workload management has become an important issue for fast bowlers, who face significant physical demands across Test matches, ODIs, T20s, domestic cricket, and franchise leagues.
He suggested that Pakistan should manage its fast-bowling resources carefully, particularly when preparing for demanding international schedules.
The former pacer expressed optimism about Pakistan’s prospects in England and hoped the team would maintain its momentum and deliver improved performances in the upcoming series.
