HYDERABAD: A tape-ball cricket tournament was organized at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, as part of the celebrations for Independence Day. The event was hosted by the university’s Directorate of Sports and featured an exciting match between teams representing the Faculty of Crop Production and the Faculty of Crop Protection.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Engineer Professor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, who opened the event by hitting a cricket ball. The participating teams were also introduced to the vice chancellor before the match.
In the main match, the Faculty of Crop Protection batted first and set a target of 105 runs in the allotted eight overs.
The Faculty of Crop Production, led by Altaf Hussain Sangi, produced an impressive performance and successfully chased down the target in just seven overs, securing a convincing victory.
The winning team’s batsman Jawad Qambarani played a key role in the victory with an outstanding innings of 50 runs. His performance helped his team reach the target quickly and comfortably.
After the match, Vice Chancellor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal congratulated the winning team and appreciated the efforts of all the players. He said that sports activities play an important role in developing a healthy spirit of competition, discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills among students.
He said that sports competitions and other activities organized as part of the Independence Day celebrations are intended to promote patriotism, unity, and positive thinking among young people.
Dr. Siyal emphasized that educational institutions should provide students with opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities alongside their academic studies. According to him, sports help students remain physically active while also teaching them valuable lessons about cooperation, responsibility, discipline, and fair competition.
Earlier, both teams were introduced to the vice chancellor. Director of Sports Shaukat Hussain Sangi welcomed the guests, players, teachers, officers, and students participating in the event.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of university officials, faculty members, teachers, and students. Among those present were Dean of the Faculty of Crop Production Dr. Inayatullah Rajpar, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences Dr. Ghiyasuddin Shah Rashdi, and Director of Student Affairs Dr. Piar Ali Sher.
The tournament added a sporting element to the university’s Independence Day celebrations and provided students and faculty members with an opportunity to participate in a healthy and enjoyable activity.
The successful organization of the event also highlighted the university administration’s efforts to encourage sports and extracurricular activities. Such events provide students with an environment where they can demonstrate their abilities, build confidence, and strengthen their relationships with fellow students and faculty members.
The exciting contest between the two faculties attracted considerable interest, while the performance of the Crop Production team, particularly Jawad Qambarani’s half-century, became a major highlight of the match.
