The Punjab government has approved the restoration and release of loan funds for river management and flood protection projects, paving the way for the resumption of key schemes aimed at reducing flood risks across the province.

the decision removes financial obstacles that had delayed several flood protection projects and is expected to accelerate work on protective embankments and other infrastructure designed to strengthen river defences.

The completion of several pending flood protection schemes depended on the restoration of these loan funds.

A request has already been submitted to the relevant foreign donor agency to reinstate the financing required for the projects.

Officials said similar funding had been obtained during the previous financial year, but fresh approval was required before the funds could be released for the current fiscal year.

The restoration process is being carried out following a request submitted by the Planning and Development (P&D) Board.

The approved funds will be allocated to the Punjab Irrigation Department and the Ravi Urban Development Authority to support the implementation of river management and flood protection initiatives across the province.
