TEHRAN: Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has said that Tehran has received signals indicating that the United States is ready to resume fulfilling its commitments.

According to Iranian media reports, Gharibabadi said that an understanding between Iran and Oman regarding a new arrangement for the Strait of Hormuz is nearing its final stage.

He stated that the issue of transit fees for ships would depend on decisions by Iran’s leadership and the future approach of the United States.

Gharibabadi clarified that the Iran-Oman understanding does not mean the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He said the proposed model would be different from the arrangement that has existed for the past 60 years, adding that a significant portion of shipping routes would pass through Iranian waters.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister reiterated that Tehran had received indications from Washington that it was willing to return to its previous commitments.

The report added that following the Iran-Oman agreement, a possible US-Iran agreement could be reached in the coming days.
