The open sale of alcohol in Sukkur city is allegedly continuing under the patronage of the police, causing deep sorrow, anger, and concern among citizens. Alcohol dens are operating openly and fearlessly in various parts of the city, while the silence of the police and district administration is giving rise to many serious questions.
According to local sources, alcohol is being sold openly at Royal Plaza, Teer Chowk, in front of Goth Shala, and other key locations. Individuals involved in the illegal liquor trade claim that they pay large monthly sums to the local police, after which they are provided complete protection and no action is taken against them.
Citizens say that due to the alleged patronage of the police, this illegal business is expanding day by day. Tragically, alcohol consumption is increasing even among Muslims, and women and young children are also able to obtain alcohol easily. According to residents, the younger generation is rapidly heading toward moral and social destruction, to the extent that even school-going children are falling victim to this menace.
People of the area report that the growing trend of alcohol consumption has led to an increase in domestic disputes, violence, crime, and social inequality, while the educational and social environment has been severely affected. Parents warn that if this situation continues, it will become extremely difficult to protect the next generation.
Citizens of Sukkur, social leaders, and respected members of the community have appealed to the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Inspector General of Sindh Police, and other senior authorities to take immediate notice, shut down all liquor dens, take strict action against the alleged “black sheep” within the police force, and bring the facts before the public through transparent investigations.
According to citizens, as long as law enforcement agencies do not perform their duties honestly, it will not be possible to save the city from this menace. If immediate and effective action is not taken, the future of the younger generation will be placed in grave danger.
