SUKKUR AUGUST 12 2026 : Member of the National Assembly and central leader of the Pakistan People’s Party, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, along with Executive Director of the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD), Professor Dr. Javed Akbar Sial, inaugurated modern Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) services at SICVD Sukkur.
With the availability of these advanced facilities, patients from northern Sindh as well as adjoining areas of Punjab and Baluchistan will be able to benefit from modern treatment for irregular heart rhythms.
On the occasion, SICVD Chief Operating Officer Dr. Muhammad Musa Memon, Dr. Sajid Ali Sheikh, Dr. Javed Sheikh, Dr. Hashim Kalwar, SICVD Sukkur Administrator Bharat Kumar, and other officers and doctors were also present.
Electrophysiology services were already being provided at SICVD Sukkur. However, these services have now been expanded to include advanced Catheter Ablation and Cardiac Device Implantation facilities. These modern services will enable more effective diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmia, or irregular heart rhythms.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that the modern electrophysiology facility at SICVD Sukkur was an important need of the region. Due to the lack of such facilities, patients previously had to travel to Karachi and Lahore for treatment, while similar procedures at private hospitals could cost millions of rupees.
He said that at the government level, the same treatment could cost approximately Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 225,000, whereas at SICVD, the advanced facility would be provided to the public completely free of charge.
He further said that patients from northern Sindh, as well as those coming from Punjab and Balochistan, would benefit from the new facility, reducing the need to travel to distant cities for treatment.
Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that SICVD Sukkur has emerged as an important centre for advanced cardiac treatment in the region. The provision of modern medical facilities in Sukkur is a welcome step that will enable people in the area to receive quality and specialized treatment closer to their homes.
Executive Director SICVD Professor Dr. Javed Akbar Sial said that the objective of SICVD is to provide modern and specialized cardiac treatment close to patients’ homes. The institution is continuously expanding medical facilities and treatment capabilities at its various centres so that an increasing number of patients can receive timely, quality and free treatment.
He said that patients from Punjab and Balochistan, in addition to Sindh, were also benefiting from SICVD’s various centres. The expansion of electrophysiology services in Sukkur was part of the same commitment to ensure that advanced cardiac care was not limited to major cities but was also made available closer to patients living in remote areas.
Later, speaking to the media, Pakistan People’s Party central leader and Member of the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that a government minister’s statement about the system failing was an important matter. A federal minister is part of the Cabinet, therefore, such a statement is a serious issue, and following the minister’s remarks, we too became concerned about the situation.
He said that the region was currently passing through difficult circumstances because of the prevailing war situation and that a war was continuing in a neighbouring country. He said that the conflict in the neighbouring region was not a ground war but an aerial war, which was also causing damage and losses.
Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that Pakistan’s economic situation was certainly difficult under the prevailing circumstances, but the country was in a better position. He said that confidence had been restored and expressed hope that Pakistan’s economic position would improve further. He added that international confidence in Pakistan was increasing following the Makkah Agreement, while it would take some time to compensate for the losses caused by the war.
Regarding the Azad Kashmir elections, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that holding the elections in three phases was itself the beginning of rigging. He said that the population of Azad Kashmir was around 7 to 8 million, whereas Karachi’s population was between 20 and 25 million. Referring to the populations of Hyderabad and Sukkur, he said that population proportions and electoral considerations should also be taken into account.
Responding to a question, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that Shehbaz Sharif had done substantial work in Punjab during his tenure as Chief Minister, while Nawaz Sharif had also contributed significantly to the development of Punjab. However, he said, their services had not received the recognition they deserved, and there was now an attempt to present what exists as if it were being introduced in Pakistan for the first time.
Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah further said that if the media wants to bring facts before the public, the truth reaches the people; otherwise, reality gets suppressed. He said that uncertainty was not in the country’s interest and that political and economic stability was essential.
Regarding efforts to establish a cancer hospital in Sukkur, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that efforts had also been made to establish a specialized hospital for the treatment of cancer patients in Sukkur. He said that the objective was to ensure that patients from the region could access modern medical facilities in or close to their own city.
He said that providing modern and free healthcare facilities was an important part of public service, and that further steps were needed to provide quality medical care to the people of Sukkur and northern Sindh.
