50,000 Mangrove Seeds Planted Along Coastal Area of Badin on Pakistan’s Independence Day
Badin: On the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day, the Hamdum Foundation planted 50,000 mangrove seeds along the coastal area of Shaikh Kario Zero Point in Badin district, continuing its plantation initiative from the previous year.
Deputy Commissioner Badin Yasir Bhatti attended the plantation activity as the chief guest, while Assistant Commissioner Rajesh Dilpat was also present. Deputy Commissioner Yasir Bhatti, Hamdum Foundation Chief Executive Officer Shaukat Ali Soomro, and other guests personally planted mangrove seeds and participated in the plantation campaign.
Later, the guests inspected the mangrove plantations carried out during the previous year and appreciated the successful efforts of Shaukat Ali Soomro and his team in promoting coastal forestation.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Yasir Bhatti said that planting trees is a noble and environmentally beneficial activity, but growing mangroves along the coastline is a challenging, labor-intensive, and patience-demanding task.
He appreciated the work initiated by Hamdum Foundation for the promotion of mangroves in the coastal areas of Badin, describing it as not only commendable but also a model worthy of replication by others.
He further said that the district administration had been supporting Hamdum Foundation from the beginning, and its presence at the plantation site reflected the administration’s commitment to strengthening this environment-friendly initiative. He assured that the district administration would continue to provide all possible support for the expansion of the campaign.
Hamdum Foundation CEO Shaukat Ali Soomro stated that his organization has so far planted more than 250,000 mangrove seeds and saplings in the coastal areas of Badin. He said the survival rate of these plantations has remained between 75 and 80 percent.
He added that it was encouraging that previously planted mangroves were now producing millions of new seeds, contributing to the natural regeneration and expansion of coastal forests.
Shaukat Ali Soomro said that Hamdum Foundation would continue its plantation campaign in the future to protect the coastal environment, prevent coastal erosion, and restore ecological balance in the region.
