Karachi: The Government of Sindh has restored the Saturday holiday for all public and private schools across the province, revising its earlier decision that required public schools to remain open six days a week.

Under the new policy, schools will observe classes from Monday to Friday, while Saturday will once again be a weekly holiday for all educational institutions.

To compensate for the reduced number of school days, teaching hours will be extended by one additional hour each day, ensuring that academic activities continue without disruption and that the required curriculum can be completed effectively.

According to the Sindh Education Department, the decision has been taken as part of the provincial government’s austerity measures and its efforts to ensure the efficient utilization of available resources. The revised schedule is expected to reduce operational costs while maintaining the quality of education through longer instructional hours during the five-day school week.

The department confirmed that the new timetable will apply uniformly to both government and private educational institutions throughout Sindh.

The latest announcement reverses an earlier directive under which only government schools were instructed to operate six days a week, while private schools were exempt from the requirement. At the time, the Sindh Education Department had issued a notification ordering public schools to remain open from Monday through Saturday.

It is worth noting that Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah had previously stated in a social media post that all government schools across the province would remain open on Saturdays. However, following the latest cabinet decision, the weekly holiday has now been reinstated, and all schools in Sindh will follow a five-day academic week with extended daily teaching hours.
