Karachi: Police and law enforcement agencies launched an operation at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) headquarters in Bahadurabad following a violent clash and reports of gunfire at the party’s central office.
According to police officials, several MQM-P office-bearers and party workers were taken into custody during the operation. Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact number of detainees or the specific charges they may face.
Police also attempted to seal the MQM-P headquarters during the operation. However, party representatives reportedly prevented the move, arguing that officials did not possess the necessary government authorization or formal legal order required to seal the premises. As a result, the office remained open.
The operation follows an incident that occurred two days earlier, when rival factions within MQM-P allegedly clashed at the Bahadurabad headquarters. The confrontation reportedly escalated into an exchange of gunfire, raising concerns about public safety and internal tensions within the party.
At the time of the incident, a heavy contingent of police and Pakistan Rangers was deployed to the area. Security personnel cordoned off the surroundings and brought the situation under control after intervening at the scene.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the investigation or confirmed whether additional arrests are expected. The incident remains under investigation as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash and identify those responsible for the violence.
