Srinagar: Former Chief Minister of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah has rejected attempts to link Pakistan with the Kulgam incident, describing such claims as a political move by the Indian government and calling for a transparent and impartial investigation into the matter.
In an interview, Farooq Abdullah criticized the Indian media narrative that allegedly sought to connect Pakistan with the Kulgam and Islamabad incidents. He questioned the government’s claims regarding the end of terrorism in the region and asked, “If terrorism has ended, then who is responsible for attacks on workers?”
He demanded a “truthful and honest investigation” into the Kulgam incident to determine the actual facts behind the attack.
The former chief minister alleged that the Modi government bears responsibility for the prevailing security situation in occupied Kashmir. He expressed concerns over the killing of two non-local workers in Kulgam and a police constable in Islamabad district, suggesting that the possibility of an internal conspiracy should also be examined.
Farooq Abdullah questioned the government’s security claims, saying that if authorities claim to have secured the borders, then it should be explained how such attacks continue to take place.
He further questioned why such incidents occur whenever demands related to the restoration of Kashmir’s special status emerge. According to him, the attack on workers in Kulgam shortly after protests at Jantar Mantar appeared to be a matter requiring serious investigation.
The former chief minister emphasized that instead of making allegations without evidence, authorities should focus on uncovering the truth through an independent inquiry.
The Indian government and security agencies have previously blamed militant groups for attacks in the region, while political figures in Jammu and Kashmir have repeatedly called for investigations and accountability.
The Kulgam incident has once again intensified debate over security, political tensions, and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
