Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured a simple majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, but opponents are finding it difficult to accept the party’s victory.

Addressing a press conference, Atta Tarar said that baseless allegations had been made by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, and those making accusations should also provide evidence to support their claims. He added that if questions are raised over the 2024 elections, then similar questions could also be raised regarding elections in Sindh.

The federal minister said that political criticism and differences of opinion are part of democracy, but all political parties and leaders should demonstrate tolerance, patience, and respect for democratic values.

He claimed that opposition parties had no performance achievements to present before the public, while voters supported the PML-N based on its development initiatives and governance record.

Atta Tarar stated that people actively participated in the electoral process and voted for the party after considering its performance and plans for progress. He said the PML-N has always prioritized the development and welfare of Azad Kashmir.

The minister also appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for congratulating the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on its success in Gilgit-Baltistan, saying that such gestures help promote democratic traditions.

He urged political opponents to accept the results of the AJK elections and respect the public mandate. According to Atta Tarar, the PML-N’s victory reflects the confidence of voters in the party’s policies and development agenda.
