Sukkur: Water levels in the Indus River are rising rapidly, with a medium-level flood situation at Guddu Barrage and a low-level flood situation at Sukkur Barrage, according to irrigation authorities.
Officials said that the increasing water flow has resulted in continued flood conditions at both barrages. The latest figures show that the water inflow at Guddu Barrage is 258,811 cusecs, while the outflow has been recorded at 228,467 cusecs.
At Sukkur Barrage, the water inflow was recorded at 287,583 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 234,253 cusecs. Meanwhile, at Kotri Barrage, the water inflow was reported at 136,370 cusecs and the outflow at 118,745 cusecs.
Irrigation officials said that water levels at Guddu Barrage are expected to decrease during the next 24 hours, although the medium-level flood situation is likely to continue for some time. They added that a reduction in water levels at Sukkur Barrage is expected after 48 to 72 hours.
Meanwhile, due to the ongoing flood situation at Guddu and Sukkur barrages, several katcha (riverine) areas connected to both barrages have been submerged. Local administrations and relevant departments are monitoring the situation and keeping track of water flows in the river.
Authorities have advised residents of vulnerable riverine areas to remain alert and follow instructions issued by local administration and irrigation officials. Further updates will be provided as water levels continue to change.
