Islamabad: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has described Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s statement about creating new administrative units or provinces as confusing.

Speaking to Geo News, Rana Sanaullah said he listened to Mohsin Naqvi’s speech but could not understand what he meant. He said Naqvi appeared to be trying to explain a major issue but failed to present his point clearly. He added that Naqvi’s remarks did not seem consistent.

Rana Sanaullah said the statement appeared to be Mohsin Naqvi’s personal opinion, and it was up to him to explain what he intended.

He said the Constitution already provides a procedure for creating new provinces or administrative units, and the matter should be discussed in Parliament. He added that any final decision would be made by the party leadership.

Rana Sanaullah recalled that during the PML-N government in Punjab from 2013 to 2018, his party had introduced a resolution for creating two provinces in Punjab. He said forming new provinces is a complex process that requires a national commission to examine issues such as funding, administrative arrangements, and representation.

He added that consultations with the National Assembly, Senate, and provincial assemblies would also be necessary. According to Rana Sanaullah, both smaller provinces and a stronger local government system are possible options, but political parties must decide the way forward.
