UMERKOT: Deputy Commissioner Umerkot Naveed-ur-Rehman Larak chaired a high-level meeting at the DC Office to review security and administrative arrangements for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Javed Ahmed Dahri, assistant commissioners of all four talukas, representatives of the SSP Umerkot, District Health Officer Dr. Muhammad Ali, Chief District Council Officer Syed Sajid Ali Shah, District Information Officer Muhammad Aslam Bhatti, Municipal Committee CMO Harish Chander, HESCO XEN Ali Raza Bhatti, DSP Umerkot Azhar Hussain, officials from Public Health Engineering, Local Government, and other departments, along with Shia community leaders, Imambargah trustees, and Majalis organizers.

Participants reviewed arrangements for procession routes, security, traffic management, sanitation, street lighting, drinking water, medical services, ambulance facilities, fire brigade deployment, rescue teams, and other essential civic services. Shia representatives also presented their suggestions and concerns, which the district administration assured would be addressed promptly.

Deputy Commissioner Naveed-ur-Rehman Larak said maintaining peace, religious harmony, and public safety during the Chehlum observance is the administration’s top priority. He directed all departments to fulfill their responsibilities efficiently and ensure uninterrupted civic services throughout the religious events.

He instructed police and other law enforcement agencies to implement the security plan in full, deploy additional personnel at sensitive locations, and take all necessary measures to prevent any untoward incidents. The Health Department was directed to keep emergency medical teams, ambulances, and essential medicines on standby, while municipal authorities were instructed to complete sanitation, lighting, and drainage arrangements before the events.

The deputy commissioner emphasized that close coordination between the district administration and religious organizations would help ensure that all Chehlum processions and gatherings are held peacefully and in an organized manner. He also urged community leaders to continue supporting efforts to promote peace, religious tolerance, and unity.

At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives of Shia organizations expressed satisfaction with the administration’s preparations and assured their full cooperation. The deputy commissioner directed all concerned departments to ensure strict implementation of the approved arrangements so that mourners could observe the occasion without inconvenience in a peaceful environment.
