ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has extended its interim order restraining the National Highway Authority (NHA) from collecting an additional 50 percent toll tax from vehicles without an M-Tag or with insufficient M-Tag balance.
The order came during the hearing of a petition challenging the NHA’s notification introducing the additional toll charge.
During the proceedings, the NHA submitted its written reply before the court.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir asked the petitioner’s counsel whether he had received a copy of the reply. The lawyer confirmed that the response had just been provided and stated that he had not yet had an opportunity to review it.
Counsel for the NHA informed the court that another petition involving the same issue was also pending and requested that both cases be heard together.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir observed that the court was aware of the other matter but noted that the two petitions were separate cases.
After hearing the arguments, the Islamabad High Court extended its earlier restraining order, preventing the NHA from collecting the additional 50 percent toll tax from motorists without an M-Tag or with low M-Tag balances until further orders.
The court subsequently adjourned the hearing to a later date.
The case challenges the legality of the NHA’s notification imposing the additional toll charge, and the matter will be decided after further proceedings.
