ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is the most powerful minister in the current government and claimed that, in several matters, he is not accountable even to the Prime Minister.
Speaking on the television programme Naya Pakistan, Khawaja Asif said Mohsin Naqvi, despite serving as Interior Minister, does not function as a regular part of the cabinet system.
“I have only seen him at two or three cabinet meetings,” Khawaja Asif said, adding that Naqvi has had limited participation in cabinet affairs.
The Defence Minister also commented on the Interior Minister’s attendance in Parliament, claiming that Mohsin Naqvi has appeared in the legislature only seven or eight times.
Referring to recent remarks by the Interior Minister, Khawaja Asif said that if someone in Mohsin Naqvi’s position is expressing complaints about the system, then “perhaps we should all go home.”
The comments come amid continuing public discussion over governance and the functioning of the federal cabinet.
At the time of reporting, Mohsin Naqvi had not publicly responded to Khawaja Asif’s remarks. The statements reflect the views expressed by the Defence Minister during the television interview.
