ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has formally lodged complaints with the Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), alleging electoral irregularities during the second phase of the AJK elections and calling for immediate action to ensure the integrity of the voting process.
According to a written complaint submitted by Sardar Abdul Shakoor, In-charge of the PPP Election Cell in AJK, the party has raised concerns over two alleged incidents of election misconduct and urged the Election Commission to investigate them without delay.
One of the main allegations relates to Polling Station No. 24 in Constituency LA-32, where the PPP claims that workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were allegedly stamping ballot papers. According to the complaint, such actions, if verified, would seriously compromise the transparency and fairness of the election.
The PPP further alleged that the reported activity constitutes a violation of the Election Code of Conduct as well as rules governing the conduct of public officials during elections.
In its complaint, the party requested the Chief Election Commissioner to take immediate notice of the matter, conduct a thorough investigation, and ensure that all electoral laws and regulations are enforced impartially.
The PPP argued that maintaining a transparent and credible electoral process is essential to preserving public confidence in democratic institutions and ensuring that the will of the voters is accurately reflected in the final results.
The allegations come amid heightened political tensions during the second phase of the AJK elections, with opposition parties raising concerns over polling arrangements and the conduct of election officials in certain constituencies.
At the time of reporting, the PML-N and the AJK Election Commission had not publicly responded to the allegations made in the PPP’s complaint. The claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified.
Election observers and political stakeholders continue to closely monitor the electoral process, while parties await official responses from the Election Commission regarding the complaints and any subsequent action. Authorities are expected to examine the allegations in accordance with the applicable electoral laws and procedures.
