SUKKUR, Aug. 1, 2026: Sukkur Municipal Commissioner Khalid Hussain Jatoi chaired an important meeting to review municipal arrangements for the Chehlum of Muharram-ul-Haram, emphasizing that providing the best possible civic facilities to mourners remains the corporation’s top priority.

The meeting was held at the Municipal Commissioner’s office and was attended by religious scholars, office-bearers, organizers of mourning processions from the Shia community, as well as relevant officers and staff of the Sukkur Municipal Corporation (SMC).

Representing the Shia community were Maulana Riaz Hussain Rohani, Ali Bakhsh Sajjadi, Yaseen Lakho, Agha Waseem, and other organizers. They highlighted civic requirements, logistical concerns, and suggestions regarding Chehlum processions, religious gatherings, and mourning ceremonies.

During the meeting, municipal officials briefed participants on preparations relating to sanitation, drainage, sewerage, street lighting, waste collection, and special arrangements along the routes of processions and at venues of religious gatherings.

Addressing the participants, Municipal Commissioner Khalid Hussain Jatoi said that, in line with the directives of Sindh Government Spokesperson and Mayor of Sukkur Barrister Arslan Islam Sheikh, the Sukkur Municipal Corporation is committed to ensuring comprehensive municipal services for mourners during Chehlum observances.

He instructed all concerned departments to complete cleaning operations, drainage work, street lighting repairs, sanitation measures, sewerage maintenance, and other civic arrangements well before the commencement of the processions. He also directed field officers to maintain continuous monitoring and ensure that no negligence or lapse occurs during the religious events.

The commissioner assured representatives of the Shia community that all legitimate concerns and recommendations presented during the meeting would be addressed on a priority basis. He said the municipal administration would work in close coordination with community representatives to ensure smooth and uninterrupted arrangements.

Jatoi further stated that all departments of the Sukkur Municipal Corporation would perform their duties with full coordination, responsibility, and professionalism to facilitate the peaceful conduct of Chehlum processions and gatherings.

He stressed that civic teams would remain active in the field throughout the observances to ensure timely garbage collection, proper sewerage management, uninterrupted drainage, and functioning streetlights along procession routes.

At the conclusion of the meeting, all relevant officers were instructed to closely supervise preparations within their respective departments and maintain constant communication with representatives of the Shia community to resolve any issues promptly.

The Municipal Commissioner reiterated that the corporation would make every effort to provide efficient civic services so that mourners can observe the Chehlum of Muharram without inconvenience, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-managed environment throughout Sukkur.
