ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has praised the patience and resilience of the people of Kashmir amid ongoing protests, urging all sides to continue pursuing dialogue instead of escalating tensions.
In a video message, the veteran politician said protests in Kashmir have been continuing for the past two months, adding that the situation deteriorated on June 5.
According to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a committee had approached him to play a mediating role in an effort to help resolve the dispute through negotiations.
He said the committee placed its trust in him, but claimed that the government did not give sufficient importance to the mediation efforts and instead remained committed to dealing with the movement through the use of force.
Paying tribute to the protesters, he said, “I salute the patience and endurance of the Kashmiri people,” and added that the movement was attracting attention beyond the region.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman appealed to the committee to allow additional time for efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution.
“I request the committee to grant more time and avoid taking any major step,” he said, expressing hope that dialogue could still help reduce tensions and address the concerns of those involved.
His remarks come amid continuing political and public debate over the ongoing protests and the government’s response, with calls from various quarters for negotiations and a peaceful settlement of the issues.
