Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Thursday condemned the reported incident involving veteran TV actor Mohammed Ahmed on the set of a drama serial and proposed a mentorship programme for emerging artists.
Taking to his official X handle, the information minister said the incident had highlighted the need for greater guidance and professionalism within the television industry.
“What happened with Muhammad Ahmed, senior TV artist on the set of a drama serial, is not only condemnable but highly deplorable”.
“I would like to offer a solution in the form of a mentorship programme for young TV artists headed by senior TV artists like Ahmed sahib or a council on the same format,” he wrote.
Tarar further said he would convene a meeting of television artists to seek suggestions on the proposal.
The minister said the initiative was aimed at encouraging experienced performers to mentor younger artists and fostering a more respectful and professional working environment in the country’s entertainment industry.
Tarar’s statement came days after Mohammed Ahmed, in a recent podcast, recounted an incident in which he said a lead actor much younger than him allegedly ridiculed him on set.
Ahmed said the actor reminded others that he had once assessed his acting abilities before telling a producer he was “alright”. He also described an incident in which the actor took a portable fan from another cast member and pretended to style his hair while calling others to watch.
After videos allegedly linking Fahad Sheikh to the incident surfaced on social media on Wednesday, he apologised to Ahmed, saying “half-baked stories” were being used to “set a narrative”.
Fahad also said he had apologised to Ahmed before the controversy emerged. “He is my senior, I am not ashamed to ask for his forgiveness publicly,” he said.
“And if Ahmed sahab thinks my personal apology was not enough for him, then I apologise to him on this platform as well. I hope you don’t keep any grudges against me because I would [never] think of insulting my seniors in any case,” wrote the actor.
