Sukkur (News Desk): Sindh Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho visited Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College and Civil Hospital Sukkur, where she formally inaugurated a modern 50-bed Trauma and Emergency Response Center (T&ERC) established under the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma. On this occasion, she also launched the anti-polio booster dose campaign by administering polio drops to children.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Member of National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Sindh Government Spokesperson and Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh, Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi, Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Nader Shahzad Khan, Principal of Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Dr. Saleh Channa, District Health Officer Dr. Ali Gul Shah, along with senior health department officials and relevant authorities.

Following the inauguration, the Provincial Health Minister conducted a detailed inspection of various departments of the Trauma and Emergency Response Center, including the X-ray unit, minor operation theater, and emergency wards. She directed the authorities to strictly ensure the timely, quality, and uninterrupted provision of medical facilities to patients.

Addressing the ceremony, Principal of Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Dr. Saleh Channa stated that around 6,000 patients visit the hospital’s OPD daily, and the current budget of PKR 400 million is insufficient to meet this load. Highlighting the financial challenges, he requested the health minister to allocate additional funds for the hospital and medical college.

Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party government is taking practical steps to provide modern medical facilities to the public.

MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah highlighted that Sukkur serves as a major junction connecting Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab. Due to heavy traffic on the motorway, this modern trauma center will play a vital role in providing timely and effective medical aid to the injured during road accidents and emergencies.

Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho took notice of the shortage of faculty and staff at Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College and directed relevant authorities to submit a summary immediately so that additional teaching and medical staff could be deployed with the approval of the Chief Minister of Sindh. She reiterated that the Sindh government will continue to utilize all available resources to provide modern and quality health facilities to the public.
