SUKKUR, July 30, 2026: A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi to review arrangements, security, transportation, basic facilities, electricity, health services, and other important matters for the upcoming by-election of Provincial Assembly Constituency PS-30 Khairpur-V scheduled for August 16, 2026.
Addressing the meeting at the Commissioner Office Sukkur, Abid Saleem Qureshi directed all concerned departments to ensure strict implementation of the election code of conduct and take effective measures for conducting a transparent, impartial, and peaceful election.
He instructed the divisional and district administrations to ensure the availability of basic facilities, uninterrupted electricity, security arrangements, polling staff, and transportation of election material at all polling stations. He also emphasized preparing a contingency plan and a backup plan in view of possible monsoon rains and flood-related challenges.
The Commissioner said that the Election Commission, district administration, police, and officials including Assistant Commissioners and Mukhtiarkars of Gambat and Sobhodero must closely monitor the situation and complete all assigned responsibilities efficiently.
He directed that 100 percent attendance of polling staff during training sessions should be ensured. He also ordered necessary arrangements for deploying female police personnel and lady health workers at women’s polling stations.
The Commissioner further instructed the Director Colleges to establish a camp office at Government Degree Science College Gambat and work jointly with the relevant departments to provide all necessary facilities at the camp office and other polling stations.
During the meeting, Regional Election Commissioner Sukkur Adnan Bashir said that a camp office would be established at Government Degree Science College Gambat, while the entire election process would be monitored by Returning Officer and Regional Director Election Commission Larkana Abdul Wahid Baloch. He added that close coordination would be maintained with all relevant departments to ensure a fair, peaceful, and transparent election.
He said coordination would continue with police, Rangers, district administration, and officials appointed by the Election Commission of Pakistan to maintain a secure environment during polling.
District Election Commissioner Khairpur Naeem-ur-Rehman Jalbani briefed participants about election arrangements, stating that polling would be conducted in two talukas of Khairpur district. He informed that there are *163 polling stations, including **63 highly sensitive, 68 sensitive, and 32 normal polling stations, with a total of *254,980 registered voters eligible to cast their votes.
He said coordination was underway with Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Altaf Ahmed Chachar and SSP Khairpur Ameer Saud Magsi regarding the installation of CCTV cameras at polling stations.
Deputy Commissioner Altaf Ahmed Chachar assured the meeting that all necessary arrangements would be completed, including visits to polling stations, provision of basic facilities, and implementation of security and administrative plans based on previous election experiences.
SSP Khairpur Ameer Saud Magsi said that the police had prepared a comprehensive security plan and would work jointly with Rangers and district administration to ensure peaceful polling.
The meeting was attended by District Monitoring Officer Attaullah Brohi, DIB Incharge Khairpur Ali Gul Mallah, Director Schools Hafiz Abdul Wahid, officials from SEPCO, PPHI, NADRA, College Education, Information Department, and other relevant departments.
